bbcLast year when it was believed the BBC were going to axe Last of the Summer Wine after 30 odd seasons there was an outcry. The media accused the BBC of axing the series due to ageism even though it had been on air for 30 years or more and ratings were quite low for the series. In the end the BBC did commission more episodes of the veteran comedy series in spite of the fact it appears to have had its day and is dying a slow death.

bbcFast forward a few months and the BBC in their wisdom decide to cancel Jennifer Saunders brilliant comedy series Jam and Jerusalem after three seasons. It doesn't seem to make sense as the ratings for the third series had been quite good and the show was still a hit with fans. But it seems a nice, fresh and somewhat quirky gentle comedy doesn’t deserve to be renewed and instead the BBC have opted to continue a 30 year old comedy about a bunch of geriatrics chasing a bath down a hill.

  • Last of the Summer please!
BBC should have axed Last of the Summer Wine years ago. Same rubbish week in, week out. How is that value for OUR money?
  • rosie  - we want more jam
The BBC wouldn't know a good show if it hit them in the face

  • Jam please!
I never thought of it in these terms but ATV Bog has a very good point.

Summer Wine has been on air for 30 years and has had its day. The BBC should retire the drama and find another comedy for all those veteran actors in it.

Axing Jam makes no sense as ratings were better. If they weren't good enough for BBC One why not move it to BBC Two?
