Young and Restless fans unhappy over Tucker recast PDF Print E-mail

CBSFans of CBS soap The Young and the Restless are unhappy about the re-casting of character Tucker McCall. The character was originally played by actor William Russ but producers at Y&R decided to re-cast the character with actor Stephen Nichols taking over but this hasn’t gone down well with some fans of the soap. Producers decided to re-cast the character because of a change in the direction of planned storylines; it was decided Tucker would have a close connection to a resident of Genoa City.

Not long after joining The Young and the Restless actor William Russ was replaced by new actor Stephen Nichols who had previously appeared in General Hospital as the villain Stefan Cassadine. Since the recast was announced and Nichols made his first on-screen appearance as the new incarnation of Tucker fans of the soap have been posting on the ATV News site expressing their unhappiness with the change. Below are just some of the comments posted by angry fans.

 

Gross! This new Tucker McCall is a recycled soaper! William Russ was a breath of fresh air. I was proud that my favorite show cast him. What a let down! – Bec

 

I was so excited to see where the character of Tucker McCall would go when Russ was playing him. Now I can't wait for Tucker McCall to leave Genoa City asap! – Marie

 

Bring back the first Tucker. He was the best new thing on Y&R in awhile. I have watched this soap for many years and William Russ had really become a new reason to tune in. I was proud that my soap had cast him. PLEASE bring him back! – Dadia

 The sudden recasting of characters in soaps, especially American ones, are common place but while some recasts work others don’t always. Famously in the mid 1980s super-soap Dallas recast the character of matriarch Miss Ellie. Actress Barbara Bel Geddes had played the character but for one season Donna Reed took on the role but proved unpopular with fans and Bel Geddes reprised the role the following season.

    I loved Stephen Nichols as Patch on Days of Our Lives but he does not fit the part as Tucker Mccall

    I think it is always difficult to get used to anyone on any soap being recast but Stephen did a great job as Patch on Days of Our Lives. I think we should all just give it a chance to be a good fit on Y & R.

    I beieve I have watched CBS soaps since I was 7 and now I am retired I never had the time to watch in peace. Now that I have some time they have done away with one of my favorites. I wouldn't care of they took the B&B off. Enough with all this incest relationships.

    I am so into the soaps I thought that Tucker was a biological soap opera son os Katherine. I like his style and he really was imaginable with jill in the bed. They looked like a match. It's rear the fans have any power to keep or get rid of people and material that don't fly.

    Bring back The first casted Tucker Mccall. He fit the part. It was amost imaginable that he was the long lost son of Catherine. This new man already looks to deceitful. But then again the innocent look of the first Tucker is what lured everyone in fans/Catherine and all of the Y&R clan

    :0I was Totally Disappointed when you recast the Tucker McCall character that was originally played by actor William Russ to an old General Hospital actor Stephen
    Nichols who played the character Stefan Cassadine.
    The actor William Russ played the character of Tucker McCall perfectly from the beginning, you liked him but felt that
    He has something up his sleeve. Unfortunately with the actor Stephen Nichols
    He has a eastern European look to him that fit him for the role of Stefan Cassadine
    But not for the role of Tucker McCall plus Stephen Nichols plays Villains the best.

    I read somewhere "Tucker McCall needed to be recast because the writers decided to take the character in a different direction".... HE JUST GOT THERE!!!! You can't plan any better than that???
    I sure liked William Russ, he had that smile with a sparkle in his eyes, and when he called Jill "Darlin'" you kind of melted.... When Patch called her "Darlin'" it kind of gave me the creeps...Please, Bring back William Russ... He can play a bad guy, but in a different way, you know behind that smile he is going to do whatever he wants to because he is so rich and powerful, and he didn't get that way by letting people push him around.... Get rid of Patch...Bring back Bill...

    What could the producers of Y&R be thinking? I agree with everyone here that states William Russ is Tucker. I especially agree with Gwennie: "I sure liked William Russ, he had that smile with a sparkle in his eyes, and when he called Jill "Darlin'" you kind of melted....     HI, I LIKE STEVEN NICHOLS, HE IS A GOOD ACTOR AND. PLAYED PATCH REAL WELL ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES. WILLIAM RUSS IS AN EXCELLANT ACTOR ALSO, THEY BOTH DO THE PART WELL, MAYBE YOU COULD USE BOTH AND REPLACE THAT UGLY ADAM. :evil:

    I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. It was very difficult for me to see William Russ carrying the role of a ruthless, vengeful corporate raider.

    I believe Stephen Nichols has depth, strength, charisma and will bring to the role a true enjoyment for the viewers Young & The Restless. I know his addition has renewed my interest in the show and soaps in general.

    Good call for the change.

    I have watched Y&R since it began (except for a few years when I was working before VCRs and this is the first time I've written. They changed Victoria, they changed Jill(this one's grown on me), they changed Jack, they changed Adam and now Tucker. I'm sure I've missed a few others.

    I didn't like the Adam change and I don't like the Tucker change. If the change was made because of a storyline change maybe you should've thought the storyline through in the first place.

    This is the only soap I keep up with anymore and I am so disappointed.

    William Russ was awesome! He was a very good addition. We were talking about how Y&R had finally recovered from that ridiculous ashley baby + adam stuff, and now they pulled the rug out from under us again. very disappointing.

    Are we suppose to believe that this scruffy, skinny,dirty-looking Stephen is a billionaire business man? Russ had it nailed and I loved watching him. He had the charm even if he played a bad guy, "darlin". So sorry to see him replaced by a guy who stands like a statue with no expression in all his scenes. Are we also to believe that this Malcolm is Neil's brother. Who is casting these people? He looks like someone from a street gang and he is suppose to be a remarkable photographer going all over the world? Plus he is too physically different from Neil. I am really disgusted with the way things are going on this show. If they bring back a dead Shiela that will be the last straw! Ryder and Daisy's storyline is getting rediculous and boring too.

    I am very upset over the casting of William Ross. He had begun to grow into role and low and behold you jerked him out. Let us hope that you don't decide to replace another major character---well, there are a few suggestions, but afraid you will take me seriously.

    I, too, was disappointed to see Russ replaced.
    Instead of replacing the actors I think they should consider replacing some of the writers.
    I also feel if they bring back Sheila, I will stop watching the Y & R.
    Some of the story lines are really dumb. Give us, the viewers, credit for some intelligence.
    How many time can DNA results be wrong???

    Viewers can make or break the show. Producers of Y&R listen to viewers. Let go of these abrupt non-sensical recasts. Bring back William Russ as Tucker McCall ASAP!!!!
