American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has stated that he is “happy” and “proud” to be out. The actor came out last year following his appearance in the American Idol competition and at the time some speculated his revelation about his sexuality would kill off his career because of the conservative nature of America. Although Lambert has since courted controversy with a gay kiss during a performance which lead to some of his appearances being cancelled the actor is still successful and since working in the music industry.

"I think just being visible and proud of who I am gives the right message. I think empowerment is a great gift to give to people. And it doesn’t have to be about just my gay fans, I want my female fans to feel comfortable in their own skin and feel sexy. Hopefully my music promotes that.” – Adam Lambert in the Herald Sun

The singer is one of the few openly gay singers within the music industry and his decision to come out was championed by some who said it was important for young gay men to have a high profile role model.

  • Shannon  - Adam Lambert out for years!
Adam Lambert has been "out" since he was 18 years old. He never denied being gay on Idol, he just didn't talk about it until after the competition was over. This is a man who has never been ashamed of who he is, and is a role model for kids who see themselves as "different" (and not necessarily gay) all over the world.

What they probably mean by "come outting" is when he actually confirmed he was to the press. Beforehand he hadn't stated one way or the other.

People have lost careers in usa simply for being gay, even though better qualified, more intelligent, and harder working. So, Adam's intrepid honesty is to be respected, admired even. He is talented, and intelligent and living his life like an open book, and yes, taking hits from all sides. But he has the inner strength and grace to do it, and it has opened some minds and hearts just by living his life -no sermons, no preaching, just being true to himself. He admitted to Oprah that "it's hard." Well, all I know is that there is something about Adam that has resurrected my inner teenager, my spirit, and he makes me feel good-must be good energy, all my holistic energy workers love and support him.He is a good-natured person & I wish him well.
  • Adam Addict  - Adam is a great role model for EVERYONE!
Adam is a great role model for everyone because he is honest, self-confident, comfortable in his own skin, smart, sweet, good-natured, witty, funny, and calls it like he sees it. He isn't a phony like many in the industry, and he doesn't take any s**t. He's what all of us should strive to be as human beings.

He is VERY content and comfortable with who he is, well-spoken, hilarios, driven, MAD talented, smart, reacts to negativity with positivity and humor, remains incredibly balanced and centered no matter what is thrown at him, no matter what life throws at him. Which all make him an incredible role model, one of the gutsiest, bravest dudes. No wonder the Idol house said he was the one they all leaned on and went to for advice.

BUT he also has stated numerous times, he wished the media would focus on his MUSIC. It's always "openly-gay singer..." instead of "singer" which can get f-n frustrating, I feel him. Even this attention-grabbing headline were not his actual words. Anyway rock on buddy. You and your band are ace, and I'm glad you have well respected musicians, Industry pros and legends on your side as fans and friends already this early on in your career.
  • ROLE MODEL?
Adam's the first open-gay singer mainstream singer who is not publicly Asexual. And that is huge.

Kris Allen described Adam as "one of the most amazing people you will ever meet, hands down honest to God. When you meet Adam Lambert, you won't forget him. He is the person everyone wants to be friends with because he is so loyal and so...LAYERED, you can literally go to him for anything. He is also one of the most honest people, and it's so refreshing to have someone unfiltered like that. He is an open book and because of that, he is one of the most trustworthy people. He is all about love and fun. I love him to death."

There's yet to be one person who's met him and not fallen in love or merely warmed up to and befriended him straight away.

"To know Adam Lambert is to love him".

"Hating Adam Lambert is like hating sunshine. He is absolutely delightful."

"Adam Lambert is hilarious and an asbolute doll."

"Adam's personality and energy is magic. You will gravitate towards him in a crowd whether or not you intend to."

When ex bigot Michael Sarver was asked who he looked up to he said, "Actually, the coolest person I've met is Adam Lambert, as far as teaching me the most. And it has nothing to do with music, eveything to do with character. And not seeing the difference before you see the person, seeing the person first. I have to say if I have grown the most from any certain indivisual it would have to be Adam Lambert. His heart and soul is amazing. And he always has something positive to say, no matter what we're faced with, no matter what life throws at him."

Backstage pass: "Overall opinion. He is a really sweet chap. Very professional, very much on the ball, also very funny. smart, sharp, brassy and cheeky. Above all natural and genuine about everything he says and does. After meeting the guy, I have a hard time comprehending the notion that anyone could ever be offended by Lambert because of the way he says and does everything, he owns it all completely, he is very genuine. He is chill and also eccentric and sassy, and it's an autonomous expression, not tailored to affect anyone else in any way but really and truly HIS, and you are welcome to react/respond as you wish. His attitude and life outlook is rare. A magnificently different celebrity."

"Confidence involves knowledge: knowledge of your subject, knowing you have the skills to succeed and knowing that all will go well.

Confidence both results from and instills a feeling of safety, allowing you to act without fear.

Courage, on the other hand, comes into play when you feel anything but safe. It is a leap into the unknown or, worse, a leap towards known risks, dangers and pitfalls, eliciting fear or at least apprehension, and yet you leap anyway when you could choose otherwise."
  • Stick It In Hard
Bit like Will Young, didn't say before hand. That would have been brave!
