Veteran actor Bernard Cribbins is to receive a Special Award as this BAFTAyear’s British Academy Children’s Awards. The actor will be recognised for his contribution to children’s television which includes over 100 appearances on Jackanory to narrating The Wombles amongst his many credits. The actor has appeared in many, many memorable shows such as The Avengers and Worzel Gummidge and on film appeared in three Carry On films, the fondly remembered The Railway Children and in 1966 the big-screen Dalek movie Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 AD, starring alongside Peter Cushing.

Most recently Cribbins has been involved in the Doctor Who franchise once more playing Wilfred Mott in several episodes of the revived series. The actor has reprised his role for the final two Doctor Who specials of this year and will take on the role of the ‘companion’ for the two stories. The Special Award will be presented to him by his Doctor Who co-star Catherine Tate.
