A 1997 science fiction series from Anglia Television dealing with photographer Steven Blake’s investigation into a road accident that leads to questions about the survivors of the village of Sweet Hope – a small rural village that collapsed into the sea. As Blake investigates further into the survivors and their rise to power he suspects a cover up of secret weapons testing but the survivors are holding a darker secret than that and soon Blake’s world is turned upside down and the end of humanity seems very near indeed.

In 2003 ITV took a second stab at creating a successful spin-off series from The Bill by launching MIT: Murder Investigation Team. The series revolved around a small team of detectives that investigated the gruesome murders that took place in the capital and their first investigation was into the fatal shooting of a Bill regular.

We take a look at the six-part thriller series Kessler which was the sequel to Secret Army; the BBC drama series set in occupied Belgium following the operatives of lifeline who helped shot-down RAF pilots evade capture. Kessler followed the character of SS Standartenfuhrer Ludwig Kessler [Clifford Rose] as he tries to evade capture more than 30 years after the close of World War Two.

The recent cancellation of Dollhouse by Fox proves that shows lucky enough to get a second chance don’t always get to prove themselves before the axe actually falls. In many ways a second season of a show is trickier than the first as it has to retain audience interest, attract new audiences as well sd prove it can still tell original stories. However, as our look at shows that were axed after two seasons show some downfalls are caused by being too different from what went before – revamps which alienate the core audience.

 The recent axing of Eastwick by ABC after just a handful of episodes certainly isn’t the first time and won’t be the last time a show has been cancelled after just one season. We take a look back at some other shows that haven’t managed to make it past the first season for various reasons. Some of our shows should have returned and some are best confined to the archives.

To mark 50 years of Anglia Television we take a brief look back at the ITV’s franchise only foray into the world of soap. Rural soap Weavers Green launched in 1966 and while it didn’t last for long it clocked up a few soap firsts and was seen by many as an early predecessor to Yorkshire Television’s Emmerdale.
