The actress will also be familiar to audiences for her time in the BBC sketch series Goodness Gracious Me and for playing grandmother Ummi in comedy chat-show The Kumars at No. 42.

Meera Syal announced on the Paul O’Grady Show that she is to appear in two episodes of Doctor Who next year, alongside Matt Smith. The actress was most recently seen in Holby City but is certainly no stranger to the world of television having appeared in many programmes. Amongst her other roles include Bad Girls, Murder Investigation Team, Beautiful People, Band of Gold, Kingdom, Jekyll and Minder.
