Actor John Barrowman appeared on BBC One’s chat-show Friday Night bbcwith Jonathan Ross in which he discussed his upcoming role in the hit ABC drama Desperate Housewives and also on the future of his science fiction series Torchwood. In January it was announced that the actor was to appear in at least five episodes of Desperate Housewives towards the end of its current series. The announcement followed speculation that Barrowman had met with series creator Marc Cherry about joining the series. During Barrowman’s appearance on Jonathan Ross’ chat-show he discussed his forthcoming role in the show and also the future of Torchwood – which he seemed unsure off.

I don't know ... that's the answer I have to give you, I have no idea. I have no clue of what's going to happen, that's the official answer. That's what I am sticking to - I always say something else and and say something more, and I get in trouble for it, so I'm not saying anything more! – Jonathan Barrowman on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Barrowman had previously been confident over the shows future stating he believed the BBC would renew it for a fourth season – sometime in 2010. However, as yet there has been no official word from the corporation regarding the future of the Doctor Who spin-off. In January though it emerged that BBC Worldwide and Fox were working on a possible spin-off from Torchwood set in America. Reports suggested that Torchwood’s creator and executive producer Russell T. Davies was working on the project alongside Julie Gardner. It was also suggested that should the pilot actually be picked up by Fox that Barrowman could appear in it as Captain Jack Harkness.

No, I don't think he was unsure. I think he was very sure he had to keep his mouth shut!

i agree with atropos, hes very sure that he needs to keep quiet about any deveopments. From that statement sounds like he knows something but cant say. "That's the official answer."

Katie you are totally right, John was talking about not knowing if Captain Jack has a future in Doctor Who under the new creative team. Thats why he mentioned the fact that he felt that his time was over when David Tennants doctor went. He has in a recent interview revealed that a new 13 episode season of Torchwood is a go-er and that he has already block out the filming dates in his 2010 schedule. Yipee

When asked about Doctor Who he said this:

I did get to meet him once; we were doing some BBC publicity for Torchwood and he was being introduced to the PR department at the BBC, because he was getting briefed on what he's got to do and how his life is going to change. And he did say to me how "I'd love for our characters' paths to cross". I kind of think, with David finishing, Captain Jack might be done in the Doctor Who series. That's my feelings on it, but if they ask me to come back of course I would go back - I would go back in a second!

His comments quoted in the story are about Captain Jack n TOrchwood.
